Calipers and carriers taken back to bare metal and powder coated in the colour you pick. It's a hard, even finish that stands up to chips, scratches and corrosion better than wet paint.
Calipers and carriers, stripped and coated
Calipers sit behind the spokes where everyone can see them, and they cop brake dust, heat and road grime every time you drive. Everything we coat goes back to bare metal first. Powder never goes over an existing finish, so the old paint, and any logo printed on it, comes off before the new colour goes on. Most calipers are cast iron or alloy, and soft alloy needs a lighter hand than iron.
A caliper has to come off the car, and have its pads, pistons, seals and dust boots taken out, before it can be stripped or coated. Rubber and plastic can't go through paint stripping or the oven, so new seals go in when the caliper is put back together. The piston bores, seal grooves, threaded holes and the faces that bolt up to the car are masked so no powder gets on them. Masking is also how we do clean lines and two-tone finishes.
The carriers can be done at the same time, so everything matches. Colours come from Dulux, Interpon and Prismatic Powders in the USA, so there's plenty to choose from. Every job is priced on the item, so we need to see the calipers or some photos of them. Our prices are competitive and we don't sit on jobs, which matters when the car's off the road until the calipers go back on. Can brake calipers be powder coated, with the heat they get?
Yes. Powder is cured in the oven into a hard finish, and on a road car it copes with the heat from everyday braking. Track days put far more heat through the brakes, and over time that can discolour any caliper finish, powder or paint. If your car goes on the track, tell us when you bring the calipers in, or ring us on 09 636 6421.
What happens to the seals, dust boots and pistons?
They all come out first. A caliper has to come off the car, and have its pads, pistons, seals and dust boots taken out, before it can be stripped or coated. Rubber and plastic can't go through paint stripping or the oven, so the old seals and boots are finished once they're out, and new ones go in when the caliper is put back together. Tell us whether yours will come in already stripped down or in one piece, or ring us before you pull them apart.
Will the caliper still bolt up and work properly afterwards?
Yes, as long as powder stays off the surfaces that matter. The piston bores, seal grooves, threaded holes and the faces that bolt up to the car are masked before the powder goes on. If your caliper has anything else that has to stay bare, point it out when you drop it off.
Can you do the carriers as well?
Yes. Carriers are on our list along with the calipers, and doing them at the same time means they match. The slide pins, pin boots and pad clips come off first, and the faces the pads slide on are kept free of powder so the pads still move freely.
Will the logo on my calipers still be there?
If it's part of the metal, yes. Lettering cast or machined into the caliper stays. Most other logos are printed or stuck on over the old finish, and they come off with it, because everything goes back to bare metal before we coat it. If you're after a logo on them afterwards, or the lettering in a second colour, tell us when you bring them in or ring us on 09 636 6421.
What colours can I have?
Our site shows 205 colours from Dulux and Prismatic. We also use Interpon, and we can order from over 6,500 Prismatic Powders shades out of the USA. Two-tone is an option too, using masking. A screen can't show a powder properly, so ask to see a sample before you decide, or bring us a colour to match.

It depends on how many calipers there are, whether the carriers are being done too, what they're made of, their size, the condition they arrive in and the finish you want.
